Worcester Red Sox Get 5-7 Walk-Off Win Against The Syracuse Mets

The Worcester Red Sox were back in action Saturday with 7,814 fans enjoying game five of this six-game series with the Syracuse Mets. In the eleventh inning Worcester got a walk-off 5-7 win. This was the first game at Polar Park all season that went longer than ten innings. 

This game got started at the top of the third with Travis Jankowski hitting a single to drive in Deven Marrero to make it a 1-0 game.

Bottom of the fourth Worcester made this a 1-4 ballgame with, first with Pedro Castellanos hitting a single to drive in Johan Mieses. Then Deivy Grullon hit his fifth double of the season to help get Pedro Castellanos and Jaylin Davis over the plate, and then Nick Sogard hit a double to drive in Deivy Grullon.

Top of the sixth Gosuke Katoh hit his ninth homer of the season to get Jake Mangum and Francisco Alvarez of the plate and make it a 4-4 ballgame. 

Top of the tenth Syracuse made this a 5-4 ballgame with Jake Mangum hitting his eleventh double for the season to drive in JT Riddle. But then Worcester made it a 5-5 ballgame with Johan Mieses hitting a single to drive in Izzy Wilson. 

In the bottom of the eleventh inning the Worcester Red Sox won this game 5-7 with Deivy hitting a homer 428 feet to right center to get Jaylin Davis over the plate. 

During every home game through the season theWorcester Red Sox recognizes and thanks our vets through the “In Debt To A Vet” program. At the top of the fifth Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey Chin and Lance Corporal Dominic Ricci were both recognized for their service. Chin, a native of Providence Rhode Island has been in the Navy since 2011. Ricci, a ntive of Tyngsborough, Massachusetts is a 2-time Purple Heart recipient who served with the United States Marines from 1966 to 1968.

Sunday is the WooSox home season finale at Polar Park presented by Bank of America. Fans will receive a 2022 WooSox Team Photo as they enter the park and from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m., fans can go on the field for autographs from the team who will be seated at tables around the warning track.

During the game Sunday the town of Auburn will be presented with a trophy and a championship banner for producing the highest turnout during nearly 20 “Town Takeovers” at Polar Park this season. 

After the game Sunday, players will sign soft baseballs and toss them into the stands. Lucky fans selected at random during the game will return to the field as players give them “the shirts off their backs.” Once that is done, “Kids (young and old) Run the Bases” sponsored by HP Hood. Finally, fans can play catch into the night on the outfield grass to cap off the WooSox final “Fallon Health Family Funday Sunday”

The Worcester Red Sox will travel to Rochester, NY following Sunday’s game to play their season-ending 3-game series against the Rochester Red Wings from Monday night through Wednesday afternoon.
