By Tiffany Williams –

The Worcester Red Sox continued their six-game homestand Wednesday night against the Syracuse Mets at Polar Park and with 7,004 fans at Wednesday night’s game, the WooSox hit 500,000 fans in the stands since opening day in their 2021 season at Polar Park.

Victor Santos started for Worcester Wednesday night and went seven innings, allowing no runs, only allowed three hits and struckout eight.

Darwinzon Hernandez relieved Santos and allowed two runs (Travis Jankowski and Jake Mangum) to put the Syracuse Mets on top 2-0.

Andrew Politi relieved Hernandez and allowed no runs or hits and struckout one. In the ninth Caleb Simpson took over at the mound for Politi. Simpson allowed three runs (Gosuke Katoh, Khalil Lee and JT Riddle) to give the Syracuse Mets a 5-0 win.

Manager Chad Tracy was asked Wednesday about Jeter Downs and he said he’s getting better, making good progress, he’s starting to do strength training and starting to bear weight. Tracy said that we won’t see Downs playing for the rest of the season but he will be at Polar Park through this homestand continuing to get his work in. Tracy also says he didn’t know for sure but tentatively he thinks Downs is still trying to play winter ball.

The Worcester Red Sox and the Syracuse Mets will meet for game three of this six-game homestand at 6:45 PM Thursday night.
