Worcester Red Sox Shutout Buffalo Bisons 9-0 As Enmanuel Valdez Gets 100th RBI

The Worcester Red Sox had their fifth meeting this week at Polar Park with the Buffalo Bisons. Going into this Saturday’s game, this six-game set was 2-2 with the Bisons winning 3-14 Tuesday night, Worcester winning 9-1 Wednesday night, Worcester winning 4-3 Thursday night, and the Bisons winning 10-8 Friday night. To win this series Worcester will need to win both Saturday night and Sunday night.

After three scoreless innings, at the bottom of the fourth Enmanuel Valdez hit a homer to open this game up and put Worcester on top 0-1. Bottom of the sixth Pedro Castellanos and Ryan Fitzgerald made it over the plate to put Worcester on top 3-0. Bottom of the seventh Abraham Almonte made it over the plate to put Worcester to extend their lead to 4. Bottom of the eighth Jarren Duran hit a double to help drive in both Jaylin Davis and Deivy Grullon and make this a 0-6 Worcester ballgame. Nick Sogard made it over the plate for Worcester to make it a 0-7 ballgame and then to end the eighth, Ryan Fitzgerald hit a double to drive in both Jarren Duran and Pedro Castellanos to make it a 0-10 Worcester ballgame. 

Enmanuel Valdez reached a milestone Sunday for the 2022 season with 100 RBI. After the game Valdez said he was happy to get 100 RBI and thanked God he was able to do that. Valdez said that that’s a goal every hitter has at the beginning of the year. He said it’s a very difficult task. When Valdez asked about getting the homer to start the game, he said “it feels good to kinda kickstart the offense that way.”

Worcester has 22 games remaining, 7 at home and 15 on the road and following Sunday afternoon’s game the Worcester Red Sox will travel to Allentown, PA for a six-game set against 2nd-place Lehigh Valley IronPigs which will kick off Monday with a special Labor Day game. Worcester Red Sox will have Tuesday off and will resume their six-game set against the IronPigs on Wednesday. After their six-game set against the IronPigs, the Worcester Red Sox will head to Scranton, PA for a six-game set with 4th-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre from September 13-18.
