Puerto Rican Police And Firefighters Recognized At WooSox Game Ahead Of Police vs. Fire Baseball Classic

Thursday night the Worcester Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings met for game three of their six-game series at Polar Park. Thursday night was Los Wepas de Worcester as part of MiLB’s Copa de la Diversion. 

The Puerto Rican culture was celebrated as part of Los Wepas de Worcester and the WooSox recognized Puerto Rican Police Officers from Worcester, Shirley, Framingham, Springfield and Chicopee. Also Recognized were Puerto Rican Firefighters from Worcester.

Worcester Police Officers included PO Danny Diaz; PO Irving Rosario; PO Alex Fernandez-Diaz; PO Nelson Baez; PO Jovani Mojica; PO Jose Ortiz; PO Neftali Batista; PO Samuel Rivera; and PO Ibsan Morales. 

Worcester firefighters included Lieutenant Marcos Naranjo; FF Jefferey Ortiz: FF Carlos Moro; FF Malki Velez; FF Juan Lopez; and FF Joshua Gonzalez.

From the Shirley Police Department was Chief Samuel Santiago; Retired Sergeant Jared Yanis; and Officer Jesus Ostolaza. 

From the Chicopee Police Department was Officer Elly Rodriguez. From the Framingham Police Department was Sergeant Richard Pomales. From Marlborough Police Department Communications was Marcelle Santiago and from the Springfield Police Department was Officer Anthony “Santi” Santiago.

Worcester Police and Fire, on Monday, September 26, will take the field Polar Park in the inaugural “Police vs. Fire Baseball Classic.” First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. All tickets are $10, and fans are welcome to sit wherever they like.  Visit polarpark.com/policefire.

The Worcester Red Sox in a statement said, “All proceeds will benefit the Manny 267 Foundation, which honors and celebrates the life of the late Worcester Police Officer Enmanuel “Manny” Familia, who made the ultimate sacrifice on June 4, 2021, when he heroically dove into Green Hill Pond to attempt to save a drowning teenage boy.”

Before the game, the WooSox will honor the family and friends of Manny Familia, as well as the Worcester 6 and the three firefighters who have perished in the line of duty since.

14-year-old Jovan Familia and 13-year-old Ava Roy, will serve as honorary captains.
