The Worcester Red Sox traveled to Sahlen Field in Buffalo New York in a double header matchup against the Buffalo Bisons (triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays). The Red Sox are coming off a split 6-game series against the Syracuse Mets last week/ weekend at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Pitching for tonight’s first game is LHP Brandon Walter who is (0-1, 32.40) vs Bisons. Woosox first batter Connor Wong connects with a double to left center field to open up the hitting column that’s his 7th double of the season. Pitching for the Bisons is Jake Elliot who just came into the game for Tim Mayza who came out of the game after 3 batters 25 pitches. Runner on 1st and 2nd, 1 out Refsnyder hits a double towards the third base side and brings in two runs to make it 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Jeter Downs go down looking for the strikeout to make it two outs. Runners on 1st and 2nd two outs, E-4 charged to the second baseman Otto Lopez, bases loaded for the Woosox. Roberto Ramos goes down swinging for the final out of the top of the 1st inning. Bottom of the 1st starts with a strikeout to Nathan Lukes. Moreno grounds out for the second out. Samad Taylor hits a double to center field that drives in a run to make it woosox 2, Bisons 1. After 1 the score is 2-1 Worcester.
Top of the 2 inning we have another pitching change Maximo Castillo of the Bisons. Castillo allowed his first earned run last series after being called up to the Bisons. Yolmer Sanchez goes down swinging for the first out of the 2nd. Wong hits it over the left fielder’s head for his second double of the game. That’s all for the red sox as they dont add an extra score. Bottom of the second goes scoreless, with the score staying the same.
Leading the top of the 3rd inning Rob goes down swinging on a 93mph fastball for the first out. Stewart lines out to right field for the second out. Jayln Davis goes down swinging on a 83mph breaking ball to end the top of the inning. Bottom of the third start with a 5-3 putout for the first out. Second batter grounds out Walter for the second out. Moreno hits a single off a 93mph pitch, runner on 1st, 2 outs. Moreno steals 2nd base advances to 3rd on an E-2. Nothing happens as the woosox stop them in their tracks. At the end of 3 the score is 2-1 Red Sox.
Top of the 4th inning Mieses takes ball 4 to kick off the inning. Sanches grounds out to end the top. Bottom of the inning starts off with Davis diving to make the catch for the first out. Walter gets the strikeout with a 92mph fastball. With 2 outs Lopez hits a shot right to the pitcher deflects off for a single. Walter gets Warmouth down looking with a 79mph pitch to end the 4th inning, score 2-1 Woosox.
Leading off the 5th inning is Ryan Fitzgerald, he grounded out in the 2nd inning his last at bat. Ryan draws a walk to make it his second of the game. Castillo gets Rob down looking on a 83mph pitch for the first out. Stewart Flyed to right field for his last at bat. On a 3-2 pitch Stewart goes down a 93mph pitch. Man on 1st, 2 outs, Jeter goes down looking for the final out of the top of the inning. Bottom of the 5th starts out with Walter throwing a 79mph breaking ball for the first out. Walter issues his third walk of the game. Jeter Down gets the easy out at second for the final out of the inning.
Top of the 6th inning Davis leads it off with a single over the shortstop’s head off an 81mph breaking ball man on first, no outs. Runners on 1st and 2nd after the walk drew to Ramos. Mieses goes down looking at a 92mph fastball making it the first out of the inning. Castillo has 6 strikeouts on the night. Sanches grounds out on the 6-6-3 double play to end the top of the 6th. Start of the bottom of the inning Taylor flys out to left field for the first out. Walter punches out Taylor with a 79mph pitch that was foul tipped for the out. Lopez doubles on a fly ball to center field he has 4 doubles on the season. Young grounded out to Sanchez for the final out of the inning. At the end of the 6th Red Sox 2, Bisons 1.
Start of the 7th inning Wong pops up behind home plate for the first out. Fitzgerald cracks one to deep right field for his (11th homer ) of the season. The Worcester Red Sox lead it 3-1. Refsnyder hits a double past the first baseman. He has two doubles on the night. After the hit by Rob Bisons have a pitching change with #38 Joe Biagini coming into the game. Pitching change for the Red Sox Kaleb Ort comes in for Brandon Walter. Walter pitched 6 innings, threw 95 pitches, 65 strikes, 4 hits, 1 run earned, walked 3, struck out 5. Ort gets his first strike of the game getting Warmouth caught looking. Luke flys out to left field for the 2nd out. Ort gets the final out to get the save for the Woosox. The final score was Worcester Red Sox 3, Buffalo Bisons 1.
