Red Sox Come Up Short In Game 1 Of The ALCS, Astros Win 4-5

At Minute Maid Stadium Friday night, The Houston Astros hosted the Red Sox for a game of the 2021 American League Championship Series. While the Red Sox were hoping to win game one, after four hours and seven minutes it was the Astros who won 4-5. 

At the bottom of the first, for the Astros Alvarez hit a sac fly and that drove in Altuve to make it a 0-1 Astros lead. After two scoreless innings the Red Sox took over this game at the top of the third with first, Hernandez hitting a homer and then both Bogaerts and Devers scoring to make it a 3-1 Red Sox game. In the bottom of the 6th, the Astros tied this game with Altuve hitting a homer and getting an RBI (McCormick) to make it a 3-3 game. In the bottom of the seventh, the Astros took the lead of this game after Correa hit a homer to make it a 3-4 Astros lead. In the bottom of the 8th, for the Astros, Altuve hit a sac fly and that drove in Gurriel to make it a 3-5 Astros game. The Red Sox tonight, they were not leaving this game quietly and Hernandez hit his second homer of the game to make it a final 4-5 Astros game.

Enrique Hernández had a great night with a leadoff single in the first inning, then making an inning-ending diving catch in the second inning, taking a hit away from Michael Brantley and saving one run. Hernández also hit a 448-homer and then in the ninth, Hernandez hit another solo home run.

For the Astros, this is their fifth straight ALCS and are hoping to win their third pennant over that span. For the Red Sox, well they’re trying to return to the World Series for the first time since 2018. 

The winner of the best-of-seven series will advance to the World Series to face either the Dodgers or Braves.

Game two of this series is Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
