After a Tuesday night 7-6 walk off victory, The Worcester Red Sox and the Syracuse Mets were back at Polar Park Wednesday afternoon for a special “Camp Day” game.
Delino DeShields got this game started for the WooSox with a run in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0, WooSox game.
At the top of the fourth, the Syracuse Mets took the lead by one. Off a double by Patrick Mazeika, both Mark Payton and Wilfredo Tovar scored to make it a 2-1, Syracuse game. That was followed up with Khalil Lee scoring to make it a 3-1, Syracuse Mets game.
At the top of the fifth, the Syracuse Mets expanded their lead over the WooSox with Mark Payton getting a run and then Khalil Lee hitting his seventh homer of the season and getting an RBI (Travis Blankenhorn) to make it a 6-2, Syracuse game.
The WooSox needed to do something to close the gap and Jack Lopez who is just back from the Olympics, hit his second homer of the season for the WooSox to make it a 6-2, Syracuse game. Yairo Muñoz followed that homer with his sixth homer of the season and his first since July 22, to make it a 6-3, Syracuse game and closing the gap by three.
It was a scoreless game for two innings but Jeremy Rivera changed that in the bottom of the eigth, with a run to make it 6-4, Syracuse Mets game.
At the top of the 9th, the Syracuse Mets took this game with Wagner Lagrange and Orlando Calixte both scoring to make it an 8-4 Syracuse Mets game. Wilfredo Tovar then hit his 5th homer of the season with two RBI (Cody Bohanek and Mark Payton) to make it an 11-7, Syracuse Mets game
