NORTH LAWRENCE, N.Y. — An Inwood man is facing a first-degree robbery charge after police said he brandished a knife, demanded a man’s wallet and cell phone and then fled with the victim’s phone following an early-morning struggle.
Edwin Alvarado, 32, of Inwood, was arrested following an investigation into the alleged robbery, which occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11.
According to detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Fourth Squad, Alvarado approached a 25-year-old man near the intersection of Rockaway Turnpike and Pearsall Avenue in North Lawrence.
Police allege Alvarado brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone.
A brief struggle followed.
Investigators said Alvarado then fled the scene in an unknown direction with the victim’s cell phone.
No injuries were reported.
Detectives launched an investigation following the robbery and subsequently located Alvarado.
He was taken into custody.
Alvarado is charged with first-degree robbery.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, Aug. 12, at First District Court in Hempstead.
