CONNECTICUT — Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting in New Haven that left two men dead Tuesday night, while prosecutors continue pursuing charges against a Stamford woman accused in a crash that killed an off-duty Bridgeport police officer and his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Wallingford has earned national recognition as one of New England’s top retirement destinations.
Deadly New Haven Shooting Under Investigation
New Haven police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of two men and left a young girl with minor injuries Tuesday night.
Officers responded to the 50 block of Judson Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police later confirmed that two adult men died from their injuries.
Officials said a young girl inside a nearby home was grazed by debris from a wall after one of the bullets may have struck the residence. Authorities said she was not critically injured.
Police have not released the identities of the two men.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
Additional Charge Expected in Fatal Crash Case
A Stamford woman charged in the crash that killed an off-duty Bridgeport police officer and his girlfriend is expected to face an additional charge.
Melissa Esperanza Ramirez, 27, appeared briefly Tuesday in Danbury Superior Court, where Judge Sean McGuinness modified the conditions tied to her bond.
Ramirez remains in custody.
Judge McGuinness ruled that if Ramirez is able to post her $300,000 bond, it must be done at the courthouse following a hearing before him to determine release conditions beyond GPS monitoring.
Prosecutors said Ramirez is expected to face an additional charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Wallingford Recognized Among Top Retirement Communities
Wallingford has been recognized as one of the best places to retire in New England for 2026 in a new ranking released by Travel + Leisure.
The town placed fourth on the publication’s list and was the only Connecticut community to earn a spot.
According to the ranking, Wallingford stood out because of its senior center, which offers a variety of programs and memory care opportunities for residents of different ages.
The publication also highlighted the town’s access to nearby health care, including Gaylord Hospital, along with its local transportation options that support older residents.
