MASSACHUSETTS — Two Massachusetts-based defense manufacturers have received new federal contract awards totaling more than $291 million to support critical U.S. military weapons systems and aircraft engine programs, according to the Department of Defense.
The awards include a major contract for Raytheon Missiles and Defense in Marlborough and contract modifications for General Electric Co. in Lynn, supporting Navy, Air Force and allied military operations.
Raytheon Awarded More Than $271 Million Navy Contract
Raytheon Missiles and Defense, based in Marlborough, has been awarded a $271,493,519 firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for the production of AEGIS Weapon System Fire Control System MK 99 equipment, AEGIS modernization equipment and associated engineering support.
According to the Department of Defense, the contract includes options that, if exercised, would increase the total contract value to $302,476,216.
The contract supports purchases for the U.S. Navy, which accounts for 97 percent of the work, along with Foreign Military Sales for the governments of Australia and Japan.
Work will primarily be performed in Andover, Massachusetts, where 56 percent of the work is scheduled to take place. Additional work will be completed in Chesapeake, Virginia, Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Burlington, Massachusetts.
The work is expected to be completed by July 29, 2032. If all contract options are exercised, performance will continue through December 2032.
Funding obligated at the time of the award includes fiscal year 2023 through fiscal year 2026 Navy appropriations, defense-wide procurement funding and Foreign Military Sales funding for Australia and Japan.
The Department of Defense said the contract was not competitively procured under federal law because only one responsible source could satisfy the agency’s requirements.
The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., is serving as the contracting activity. The contract was awarded on July 29, 2026.
General Electric Receives Engine Contract Modifications
General Electric Co., based in Lynn, Massachusetts, also received two contract modifications valued at $10,222,208 each for additional lot payments supporting J85 engine supplies.
The first modification covers July 2026 Performance Period Five requirements, while the second supports August 2026 production under the same performance period.
According to the Department of Defense, both modifications were issued against an existing long-term contract supporting J85 engine supplies used by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.
The July modification carries a performance completion date of July 31, 2026, while the August modification is scheduled for completion on Aug. 31, 2026.
Both modifications are funded through fiscal year 2026 defense appropriated funds and defense working capital funds.
The Defense Logistics Agency Weapons Support in Richmond, Virginia, is the contracting activity for both awards. The July payment modification was awarded on June 29, 2026, while the August payment modification was awarded on July 28, 2026.
