Sun Return Home Looking to Snap Slide Against Mystics

The Connecticut Sun will look to get back on track Wednesday night when they host the Washington Mystics at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Connecticut enters the matchup with a 2-13 record, while Washington arrives at 5-7. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on NBC Sports Boston.

The Sun are coming off an 85-75 loss to the Indiana Fever on Saturday. Olivia Nelson-Ododa led Connecticut with 12 points and seven rebounds. Leila Lacan added 11 points and seven assists, while Brittney Griner and Kennedy Burke each scored 10 points.

Lacan also made her presence felt defensively, recording four steals. Griner added two blocked shots in the defeat.

Washington enters the contest after falling 86-64 to the New York Liberty on Sunday.

Michaela Onyenwere and Sonia Citron led the Mystics offensively, combining for 29 points. Onyenwere finished with 17 points, while Citron added 12.

On the glass, Shakira Austin, Angela Dugalic and Lauren Betts each grabbed six rebounds for Washington.

Wednesday’s matchup will mark the 100th all-time meeting between the franchises.

Connecticut has controlled the series throughout its history, holding a 62-37 advantage in the previous 99 meetings.

The last matchup between the teams resulted in a 67-56 Connecticut victory at Mohegan Sun Arena. Aaliyah Edwards scored 10 points in that win.

The game also features several players with connections to UCLA’s championship-winning program.

Connecticut’s Gianna Kneepkens, Charlisse Leger-Walker and Kennedy Burke will face a Washington group featuring Michaela Onyenwere, Angela Dugalic and Lauren Betts.

Kneepkens, Leger-Walker, Dugalic and Betts were teammates during UCLA’s 2026 NCAA Championship season, while Onyenwere contributed to the program as a member of the coaching staff.

In addition to the on-court storyline, fans attending Wednesday’s game will have the opportunity to receive a Saniya Rivers bobblehead giveaway.

A limited number of the bobbleheads will be autographed by Rivers, and one fan will find a golden ticket inside their bobblehead box that will provide an opportunity to meet Rivers following the game.

For Connecticut, the focus remains on ending a difficult stretch and building momentum during the second half of the season. For Washington, the Mystics will look to capitalize on a matchup against a Sun team still searching for consistency.

Wednesday night’s contest provides both teams with an opportunity to gain ground as the WNBA season continues.
