Worcester – A man charged with first-degree murder is being held without bail following his arraignment earlier this month, according to court records.
Jeramy W. Berthiaume was arraigned in Worcester District Court on April 7 in connection with a homicide that authorities say occurred on April 2. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.
Due to the severity of the charge, the court ordered Berthiaume held without bail pending further proceedings. He is currently being held at the Worcester County House of Correction.
Court records indicate the criminal complaint was initially issued on April 3, following an electronic application. A statement of facts was filed in support of the charge.
During the arraignment, the defendant was advised of his rights to legal counsel, which was appointed. The court also allowed motions related to defense funding.
A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for May 14, where the court will determine whether sufficient evidence exists to move the case forward.
Additional filings indicate coordination with another correctional facility for the defendant’s custody ahead of the next court date.
