An update to a breaking situation on Interstate 495 southbound in the area between the Littleton rest area and Hunt Road:
A medical helicopter has now lifted off directly from the highway, transporting the wrong-way driver to a nearby trauma center. The severity of their injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.
At this time, the right lane and shoulder have been reopened, allowing slow-moving traffic to pass through the scene. The remaining lanes are still closed as crews continue their on-scene operations.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation, fire crews, and state police remain on location conducting an active investigation into the crash.
Motorists should continue to expect delays in the area and are urged to use caution while traveling through.
