A serious motorcycle crash in Douglas early this morning resulted in a heavy emergency response and a rapid transport to the hospital under State Police escort.
The incident occurred between midnight and 1:00 a.m. in the area of Lacky Dam Road and Gilboa Road. Initial reports indicate a passerby noticed debris in the roadway and noticed the motorcyclist off in the distance. The rider may have lost control and went through a chain-linked fence before coming to a stop.
Douglas EMS responded to the scene and initiated immediate medical care. Due to the severity of the rider’s condition, three EMTs accompanied the patient in the back of the ambulance during transport.
Massachusetts State Police provided an escort up Route 146 to UMass Memorial Medical Center, helping ensure a quick and uninterrupted trip for emergency care. The CEMLEC crash reconstruction unit was also requested to the scene to assist in determining the cause of the incident.
The extent of the rider’s injuries has not been officially released. The crash remains under investigation.
