Boston – At approximately 1:03 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, a sergeant assigned to District D-4 (South End) heard multiple gunshots while stopped at a red light near the intersection of Dearborn Street and Dudley Street.
The sergeant observed a suspect flee on foot to a nearby vehicle, which then sped off toward Melnea Cass Boulevard. A description of the vehicle and its direction of travel was immediately broadcast over police radio.
Officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) quickly located the vehicle along the Massachusetts Avenue connector and conducted a stop. The driver, identified as 24-year-old David Carrasquillo of Roxbury, was taken into custody without incident.
During the arrest, officers recovered a holstered firearm from Carrasquillo’s waistband. The weapon was identified as a Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 handgun, loaded with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine.
Detectives later reviewed surveillance footage showing Carrasquillo allegedly firing the weapon toward the area of Zeigler Street. Ballistic evidence was recovered at multiple locations connected to the incident.
Further investigation revealed that three individuals on Zeigler Street allegedly returned fire. Officers canvassed the area and located several vehicles with ballistic damage.
Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force recovered additional ballistic evidence near 121 Zeigler Street. Detectives determined the individuals involved had fled into that residence, prompting officers to establish a perimeter.
The incident was upgraded to a barricaded suspect situation, and specialized units, including SWAT and crisis negotiators, were called to the scene.
Following negotiations, three males and one female exited the residence. Two of the individuals—19-year-old Eliel Pena of Roxbury and 19-year-old David Ortiz of Boston—were placed under arrest. The remaining two individuals were released after further investigation.
Pena and Ortiz are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple charges, including assault and battery with a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Carrasquillo is expected to face charges including multiple counts of assault and battery with a firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
The investigation remains ongoing.
