Worcester – The community is invited to come together in remembrance and support during the upcoming Worcester City View 5K, a meaningful event honoring fallen Worcester Police Officer Enmanuel “Manny” Familia.

The race is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at 179 Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. The event, known as “Run WPD – Bound for D.C.”, will help support Worcester Police officers traveling to Washington, D.C., for National Police Week.

Proceeds and participation in the event will help ensure local officers can attend ceremonies at the National Law Enforcement Memorial, where Officer Familia’s sacrifice is honored alongside others who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Officer Enmanuel “Manny” Familia was a respected member of the Worcester Police Department who tragically lost his life in June 2021 while attempting to rescue a teenage boy who had fallen into Green Hill Pond. Familia entered the water in an effort to save the teen, demonstrating extraordinary bravery and selflessness. Both the officer and the teen were later recovered, and Familia was remembered across the city and beyond as a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The upcoming 5K serves not only as a fundraiser but also as a tribute to Familia’s legacy, bringing together residents, officers, and supporters in a shared mission of remembrance and unity.

Participants can sign up or donate through links provided by event organizers. Community members who may not wish to run are still encouraged to attend, support, and contribute in any way they can.

Organizers say the event is a powerful way to honor Officer Familia’s life while supporting those who continue to serve.
