Duxbury – A man was arrested Thursday evening following a reported assault and disturbance at an apartment complex in Duxbury.
Police say officers responded to Island Creek Village on March 26 after receiving a report of two men fighting in a hallway. Upon arrival, officers were approached by a woman who identified one of the individuals and reported that he had assaulted her inside her apartment, allegedly holding a large butcher knife to her throat.
Officers quickly located and detained the suspect. During an initial pat frisk, police reported finding a bag containing assorted pills, prescription medication not issued to the individual, and drug paraphernalia.
Authorities said the suspect continued to exhibit suspicious behavior while detained, prompting a second search. During that search, officers located additional substances, including benzodiazepines and approximately 28 grams of a white powder believed to be cocaine, following preliminary testing.
The knife allegedly used in the incident was recovered inside the apartment and taken as evidence.
Police determined that the second male involved in the altercation had acted in self-defense.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, disturbing the peace, possession of a Class B substance (subsequent offense), and trafficking in cocaine.
Due to the nature of the case involving domestic violence, authorities are not releasing the identities of those involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
