Brockton – Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office is actively investigating a non-fatal officer-involved shooting in Brockton, according to District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., two Brockton Police officers on patrol in the same cruiser initiated a motor vehicle pursuit of a 2025 white Lexus. The pursuit ended when the vehicle spun out near the intersection of Moraine and Spring Streets.
Authorities report that the 44-year-old male driver, who was the sole occupant of the Lexus, exited the vehicle and immediately began firing at officers over the roof of the car. The officers exited their cruiser and returned fire, striking the suspect once in the shoulder.
During the exchange of gunfire, a 71-year-old man inside a nearby home on Moraine Street was grazed in the arm by a bullet. The resident called 911.
Both the suspect and the injured resident were transported to Boston Medical Center- South with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was later transported to Boston hospital for additional treatment.
The two Brockton Police officers were transported to South Shore Hospital as a precaution.
Multiple specialized units responded to assist in the investigation, including Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), Firearms Identification Section (FIS), Collision Reconstruction and Analysis Section (CARS), and State Police Chemist.
Investigators recovered a handgun with an obliterated serial number from the scene in front of 115 Moraine Street. The weapon is believed to have been used by the suspect.
The identity of the suspect is being withheld at this time.
