SPENCER, Mass. — Crews were dispatched today to May St for a structure fire.
E2 and C1 leaving the station they struck the working fire as a column of smoke could be seen leaving the station. On arrival, crews found a large home well involved and started with a deck gun to knock the heavy fire down.
The address: 13 May Street.
The structure: a 2-1/2 wood frame residential dwelling.
At 3:31 p.m., units were on scene working the fire. A Second Alarm Assignment was struck, bringing mutual aid responding to the scene and for station coverage.
PORCH COLLAPSE
At 3:35 p.m., all crews went defensive following a porch collapse.
Three ambulances were requested to the scene at 3:38 p.m.
By 3:57 p.m., command requested District-7 FIU, Rehab-78, and the state fire marshall office.
At 4:05 p.m., command requested the Brookfield engine assigned to station coverage be moved up to the scene, back filling with an engine from Charlton.
At 4:10 p.m., crews were going interior, at this time.
MUTUAL AID SURGE
A second alarm brought in crews from Paxton, Leicester, East Brookfield, Brookfield and Southbridge to the scene. Charlton and North Brookfield covered the fire station.
Spencer EMS, East Bookfield Fire EMS, Leicester EMS and Paxton Fire transported six people with various injuries, along with one firefighter.
Spencer Emergency Management and Rehab 7 and 8 were on scene.
Spencer and State police handled traffic.
INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY
The fire is under investigation by the Fire District 7 FIU and the State Police FIU.
Unfortunately numerous pets were killed in the fire.
Crews remain on scene as the investigation continues.
