Pittsfield, MA – The Pittsfield Police Department announced that 65-year-old William Gross was taken into custody without incident on Feb. 16 in connection with the fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Feb. 10.

On Feb. 10, at approximately 11:33 PM, officers of the Pittsfield Police Department and emergency personnel responded to reports of a possible pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of Lincoln Street and Francis Avenue. When officers arrived, they were initially unable to locate either a vehicle or the victim, who was identified as an adult male.

Police interviewed witnesses and searched the surrounding area, eventually locating the victim on West Housatonic Street near the 1350 block, close to the Best Western Hotel.

At this time, the driver remained wanted by authorities after fleeing the scene. A dark-colored Toyota or Honda was believed to be the sedan vehicle involved.

Gross is facing charges of motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of an accident-causing personal injury or death. He is scheduled to be arraigned later this week in Central Berkshire District Court.

Gross is presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
