Holyoke, MA – Holyoke Firefighters responded to a reported roof fire at Holyoke Ingleside at approximately 11 PM.

When they arrived, crews encountered significant flames coming from rooftop ductwork near the Target store area, along with heavy smoke conditions inside the mall. Firefighters launched coordinated interior and exterior operations under the direction of the deputy chief on scene.

The fire proved challenging to extinguish as it traveled through ductwork running from the basement food court area up to the roof. Due to the extent of the fire and the need to open interior walls to fully contain it, the incident was elevated to a third alarm, bringing in additional personnel, officials say.

Mutual aid departments responded to assist at the scene and provide coverage throughout the city. The fire was brought under control around 2 AM, and crews cleared the scene by approximately.

No injuries were reported. Authorities determined the fire was accidental and originated while workers were cutting ductwork as part of cleaning and renovation efforts.

Assisting agencies included the Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Cataldo Ambulance Service.
