ANSONIA, Conn. — A structure fire left a home uninhabitable Saturday afternoon after flames spread through the upper levels of a building on Fifth Street, according to the Ansonia Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. following a report of smoke in the building. While en route, a firefighter was able to see smoke from the firehouse, signaling the seriousness of the incident before crews arrived on scene.
Once on location, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on the second and third floors at the rear of the building. Crews launched an aggressive interior attack and were able to bring the fire under control, preventing further extension to other parts of the structure and nearby properties.
No injuries were reported, a result that reflects both the timing of the response and coordinated operations among multiple departments. The Derby, Seymour and Shelton Fire Departments provided mutual aid, underscoring the role of regional cooperation during larger residential fires that can quickly strain local resources.
The fire rendered the house uninhabitable, displacing its occupants and highlighting the broader impact such incidents can have beyond immediate fire damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not released additional details as the inquiry continues.
