SHREWSBURY, Mass. — An SUV slammed straight into the lobby of a police station in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, on Monday afternoon, leaving a vehicle fully inside the building and police scrambling inside their own headquarters.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. Police said a driver was taken into custody after the vehicle crashed into the station. The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries, but police said they did not have information about that person’s condition.

Authorities confirmed no one inside the building was hurt.

Police said the vehicle drove into the entryway of the Shrewsbury Police Department around 2 p.m., ending up completely inside the building. The driver was the only person inside the SUV at the time of the crash and was transported to the hospital. No one else was injured.

The impact forced the immediate closure of the police station. Anyone who needs to file a police report has been instructed to call 508-845-1212 while the building remains closed.

The cause of the crash is under investigation as police work to determine what led an SUV to plow into the front of a police station in broad daylight.
