Mark Sanchez, the former NFL quarterback turned Fox Sports broadcaster, was arrested Saturday by Indianapolis police and faces three misdemeanor charges following a stabbing incident that left him hospitalized.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Sanchez, 38, was taken into custody at the hospital on suspicion of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. No other suspects are being sought, and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide on formal charges.
Sanchez remains hospitalized and has not yet been booked into a detention center. Fox Sports released a statement saying he is stable and recovering, expressing gratitude to the medical team and asking the public to respect Sanchez’s and his family’s privacy.
Police said the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in Indianapolis’ popular Wholesale District near the statehouse. Authorities said one man suffered lacerations while Sanchez sustained stab wounds. Investigators reviewed video footage of the confrontation, which involved just the two men.
Sanchez was scheduled to work Sunday’s Las Vegas Raiders–Indianapolis Colts broadcast at Lucas Oil Stadium but will no longer participate.
Sanchez was drafted fifth overall by the New York Jets in 2009 out of USC and helped the team reach back-to-back AFC Championship Games in his first two seasons. He also played for the Eagles, Cowboys, and Washington, finishing his NFL career in 2018. The Jets posted a message of support on X, wishing him a speedy recovery.
The incident marks a shocking turn for Sanchez, whose post-playing career as a broadcaster had kept him largely in the public eye without controversy. Authorities continue their investigation into the stabbing.
