The Oxford Police Department has been hammering traffic enforcement in town, but the early numbers don’t lie—bad driving habits haven’t changed. Police say writing tickets for a day or pulling over a few cars isn’t enough. The only way to make it stick is by keeping the pressure on.
That’s where the new Selective Traffic Enforcement Plan comes in. The STEP program lets residents go online and flag trouble spots directly to cops. The tips give police data to zero in on the worst roads and put officers where they’ll have the biggest impact.
Oxford’s a small town, but it’s also a cut-through near the state line, meaning local patrols are stretched thin. Every stop takes staffing, so police say they have to be smart about where to put their people. The goal isn’t just more tickets—it’s changing the way people drive and keeping the roads safe.
