NEW HAMPTON, N.H. — A Massachusetts man walked away with only minor injuries after a violent early-morning box truck crash on I-93 in New Hampton that left the vehicle wedged in the trees.

State Police said calls began flooding in around 4:30 a.m. Saturday about a truck off the road just before Exit 23 on the northbound side. Troopers arrived to find a 2012 yellow Hino box truck in the woods, lodged in the median after barreling across the crossover between lanes.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Anilton Resende Barros of Brockton, Mass., failed to navigate a curve, sending the truck straight into an embankment before it launched into the tree line, investigators said.

Barros was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved.

The wreck shut down the left travel lanes in both directions for roughly four hours while crews cleared the scene. All lanes reopened by 9 a.m.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation and urged anyone with information to contact Trooper John Zavala at John.A.Zavala@dos.nh.gov.
