Kids in Worcester will have to wait a little longer to climb, swing and slide at Elm Park. City officials said Monday the Elm Park Playground will shut down starting Sept. 12 after tests revealed the safety surface was botched by the contractor.
The fix won’t cost taxpayers a dime — a new surface has already been ordered and will be installed at the contractor’s expense. The city expects the playground to be back in action by early fall.
In the meantime, families are being steered to other spots to let the little ones burn energy — including Wetherell Estate Park, Beaver Brook Park and Coes Park.
