President Trump used the backdrop of the Museum of the Bible in Washington to launch a new initiative he says will help usher in a “Golden Age of America.” With the nation’s 250th birthday looming in 2026, Trump on Monday announced America Prays—a campaign urging Americans to gather weekly in small groups and dedicate an hour to prayer for the country, its people, and its future.
“Next year, we will celebrate 250 years since that Declaration was signed—and as part of the commemoration, we have invited America’s great faith communities to pray for our nation, for our people, and for peace in the world,” Trump said. “America has always been a nation that believes in the power of prayer. We will never apologize for our faith. We will never surrender our God-given rights. We will defend our liberties, our values, our sovereignty, and our freedom.”
The program calls for groups of ten or more to come together each week, with Trump framing the effort as both a national rededication and a public act of unity. “With the help of amazing faith communities across this land, we will truly make this the Golden Age of America,” he said.
Faith leaders quickly lined up in support. Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse called prayer America’s greatest weapon: “Our greatest battles are fought on our knees, and through America Prays we can join together to ask God to guide and protect this land.” Southern Baptist Convention president Clint Pressley said the effort highlights prayer as “a public testimony that we depend on God for wisdom and strength.”
National Religious Broadcasters chief Troy Miller said the initiative fits into a long American tradition of seeking divine intervention during challenging times. Pray.com founder Matt Potter urged participation by imagining “a country where millions of Americans pray every day.” And Alex Jones, CEO of Catholic prayer app Hallow, tied the effort to America’s founding: “Every great renewal begins with prayer. Our country was born through prayer, and by God’s grace, will be renewed through it.”
The initiative has already attracted a sprawling coalition of faith groups, media outlets, and high-profile conservative figures. Among the first to sign on: the Southern Baptist Convention, CatholicVote, the Faith and Freedom Coalition, Intercessors for America, Samaritan’s Purse, Salem Media Group, Flashpoint, Pray.com, Hallow, Jack Posobiec, Eric Metaxas, Rogan O’Handley, and dozens of churches nationwide ranging from First Baptist Dallas to Dream City Church in Arizona.
The White House framed America Prays as both symbolic and practical: a reminder of the role prayer has played in American history and a mobilization tool ahead of the semiquincentennial celebrations.
