The Connecticut Sun’s run of dominance in Chicago came to a halt Wednesday night as they were routed by the Sky, 88-64, at Wintrust Arena. The loss marked Connecticut’s first regular season road defeat to Chicago since August 2022 and evened the season series at two games apiece.

Tina Charles provided the biggest highlight for the Sun, scoring 19 points and making history in the process. With eight field goals, the veteran forward passed Diana Taurasi to become the WNBA’s all-time leader in field goals made. Charles now sits at 3,347 career field goals across 470 games.

Rookie guard Saniya Rivers gave the Sun a spark off the bench with 16 points, including a career-best four three-pointers, but Connecticut (10-31) never recovered from an early hole. The Sky (10-30) jumped out to a 28-10 first-quarter lead behind Kamilla Cardoso’s hot start and never looked back.

Chicago led 42-27 at halftime and blew the game open with a 17-9 third-quarter run to carry a 22-point cushion into the fourth. Connecticut briefly cut the deficit to 19, but Angel Reese and the Sky kept control. Reese dominated with 18 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four steals for yet another double-double, while Cardoso added 16 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

The Sun shot 38.5 percent from the field compared to Chicago’s 47.7 percent and were out-assisted 25-14. Aaliyah Edwards led Connecticut on the glass with eight rebounds, while Lindsay Allen and Leila Lacan chipped in eight points apiece. Marina Mabrey added six assists.

The night was marred further for the Sun when rookie forward Aneesah Morrow exited in the first quarter with a chest injury and did not return.
