CHICAGO — The Connecticut Sun held off a late rally to beat the Chicago Sky 94-84 on Saturday night at Wintrust Arena, extending their winning streak to three games.
Tina Charles made history with her 200th career double-double, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Bria Hartley, who had gone six straight games without scoring in double figures, broke through with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-3 from deep. Marina Mabrey added 20 points, four rebounds and a season-high eight assists, surpassing 1,000 career field goals in the process. Rookie Saniya Rivers chipped in 13 points, three rebounds and three steals.
The Sun built a 21-point lead in the second half before the Sky cut it to 77-73 with just over seven minutes left. Aneesah Morrow hit a key three-pointer, and Hartley and Mabrey combined to push the margin back to double digits as Connecticut closed strong.
The Sun shot 51.5% from the field and forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 26 points, while committing only nine themselves.
Kia Nurse led Chicago with 19 points off the bench, while Angel Reese had 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for her 45th career double-double, tying Charles for the most in a player’s first two WNBA seasons.
