PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Sea Dogs routed the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 8-2, on Saturday night before 6,868 fans at Delta Dental Park, their 23rd sellout crowd of the season. The win moved Portland to 23-26 in the second half (55-59 overall), while Binghamton dropped to 32-17 (77-39).

The night also marked a milestone for Sea Dogs manager Chad Epperson, who earned his 283rd career win with Portland, passing Arnie Beyeler for the most managerial victories in franchise history.

Portland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Allan Castro and a run-scoring wild pitch. Binghamton answered in the fourth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Kevin Parada and William Lugo to tie it 2-2.

The Sea Dogs quickly regained control in the bottom half. Drew Ehrhard doubled with two outs and scored on a triple by Caden Rose, before Justin Riemer drove in Rose with his first Double-A hit. A costly Rumble Ponies error allowed three more runs to score, stretching Portland’s lead to 7-2.

In the seventh, Castro led off with a triple and crossed home on Ronald Rosario’s RBI single to cap the scoring.

Left-hander Hayden Mullins (5-2) earned the win, striking out six and allowing two runs over five innings. Daniel Juarez (0-3) took the loss for Binghamton, yielding three runs (two earned) in three innings.

The series wraps up Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Delta Dental Park. Portland will send right-hander Blake Wehunt (2-7, 3.99 ERA) to the mound against Binghamton’s Luis Moreno (8-2, 4.36).
