On Tuesday, August 5, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) arrested 29-year-old Michael Murdock in connection with a late May shooting in Wilbraham.

The incident occurred on May 29 around 11:50 p.m., when Wilbraham Police responded to Springfield Street following reports of shots fired. Officers located evidence confirming a shooting had taken place. During the course of their investigation, authorities learned that an occupied vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Working closely with Springfield Police FIU detectives, Wilbraham officers identified Murdock as a suspect.

In July, Wilbraham officers obtained an arrest warrant for Murdock through Palmer District Court.

On August 5, around 3:25 p.m., Springfield FIU detectives observed Murdock on Tinkham Road and conducted a traffic stop. He was taken into custody without incident. During the stop, detectives recovered a loaded firearm magazine, approximately 4.5 grams of cocaine, and more than $600 in cash. Murdock was also found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

He was expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Wednesday for the new charges, and again on Thursday in Palmer District Court in connection with the outstanding warrant.

Michael Murdock Jr., 29, of Springfield, is facing multiple charges including possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. The charges under the Palmer District Court warrant include attempted murder, assault and battery with a firearm, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and a marked lanes violation.
