WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio met today with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues, including counterterrorism cooperation and economic engagement.

Secretary Rubio expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to support regional stability, particularly its role in facilitating dialogue with Iran. The two leaders also addressed plans for enhanced cooperation to counter terrorist threats, including ISIS-K, ahead of the upcoming U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue set to take place in Islamabad this August.

In addition to security matters, Secretary Rubio emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties. He highlighted opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial trade and explored avenues for collaboration in the critical minerals and mining sectors—key areas of interest for both nations’ strategic growth.
