BROOKFIELD, Vt. — A woman from the Chittenden County area has been charged in connection with the 2023 overdose death of a Brookfield man, according to the Vermont State Police.
Detectives with the VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation say 42-year-old Nicole M. Wright is facing charges of selling a regulated drug with death resulting. The charges stem from the April 16, 2023 death of 39-year-old Justin Cutler, who was found unresponsive in his Brookfield home with drug paraphernalia nearby.
An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Cutler died of an accidental fentanyl overdose.
Investigators say Cutler had communicated with Wright via social media and phone to arrange a drug purchase. The two met in the Burlington area the day before Cutler’s death, and the drugs later found at the scene tested positive for fentanyl.
Wright has been issued a citation to appear in Chittenden Criminal Court on August 28, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. No bail was set, and she was not lodged following the charge.
