ASTORIA, Queens — A 17-year-old boy was stabbed late Thursday night outside a gym in Astoria after stepping in to protect a friend who was about to be attacked, police said.
The incident happened around 11:40 p.m. on July 17 in front of the New York Sports Club located at 38-14 30th Avenue, near the intersection with Steinway Street.
According to law enforcement sources, the teen was speaking with another man outside the gym when a black sedan pulled up and two men got out. A third individual remained behind the wheel. The two suspects attempted to attack the teen’s companion with a knife, prompting the teen to intervene.
During the scuffle, the teen suffered a laceration to his neck and a stab wound to his left buttock. The assailants quickly jumped back into the sedan, which then fled south on Steinway Street toward Northern Boulevard.
Officers from the NYPD’s 114th Precinct responded to the scene and found the injured teen on the sidewalk. He was transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
