FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Revolution (6-10-7; 25 pts.) suffered a 2-1 defeat to Orlando City SC (10-6-8; 38 pts.) on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium in front of 24,954 fans. A pair of goals from Orlando forward Martín Ojeda proved decisive, spoiling a second-half equalizer from Tomás Chancalay.
Orlando struck first in the 18th minute when Eduard Atuesta floated a long ball over New England’s back line to Ojeda, who calmly rounded goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič and slotted the ball into an open net.
The Revolution responded in the 55th minute. Returning from a three-game injury absence, Ilay Feingold picked out Chancalay with a long switch across the field. The Argentine attacker brought the ball down cleanly and fired a low shot into the bottom-left corner for his third goal of the season and second in as many matches.
Just three minutes later, Ojeda put Orlando back in front with a powerful finish into the roof of the net from close range after a feed from Ivan Angulo. The brace brought Ojeda’s season total to 12 goals.
Despite applying sustained pressure for the remainder of the match, New England couldn’t find another breakthrough. Captain Carles Gil was especially active in attack, leading all players with five key passes and four shots. Gil is set to represent the Revolution in the 2025 MLS All-Star Game next week in Austin, marking his fourth career selection.
Chancalay, who entered as a halftime substitute, led the team with four shot attempts and recorded his third goal in his last four appearances. Feingold’s assist was his fourth of the season and third against Orlando, following a two-assist performance earlier this year on May 10.
Goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič made four saves in his 50th appearance across all competitions for the Revolution. On the defensive end, Brayan Ceballos received a yellow card for dissent in the 67th minute and will miss next Friday’s match against CF Montréal due to yellow card accumulation.
New England will look to bounce back at home when they host CF Montréal on Friday, July 25.
