BOSTON — Travelers passing through Boston Logan International Airport this summer will be greeted by more than just baggage carousels — they’ll be welcomed with the sound of live music, thanks to a new collaboration between the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and the Mass Cultural Council.
As part of a pilot program running through the end of August, professional musicians and local college students will perform in the baggage claim areas of Terminals B and C. The initiative aims to enhance the overall passenger experience by creating a more welcoming and relaxing atmosphere for travelers arriving at one of the busiest airports in the United States.
Massport says the music program complements other stress-reducing efforts it has implemented in recent years, including public art installations, sports exhibits, curated music throughout terminals, increased natural lighting, the Sensory Room in Terminal E, and thoughtfully designed seating areas.
“Everyone enjoys live music, and if we can make the experience of waiting for your luggage a little better, that’s a win,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey. “When you arrive at Boston Logan, you’re either coming home or visiting Boston – and in both cases, we want to make your journey as pleasant as possible. This is just one of the many new features we’re bringing to the airport to enhance the passenger experience. A big thank you to the Mass Cultural Council for partnering with us on this initiative. I’m really excited about the lineup of musicians and the diverse range of music they’ll be performing. I think travelers are going to love it.”
Mass Cultural Council, the state’s independent arts agency, is leading the recruitment and support of participating musicians. Artists are being paid for their performances, and the Council has tapped into its statewide network to encourage local musicians to apply.

With more than 43 million passengers passing through Logan last year, performers gain a unique platform to share their music — and potentially book future gigs from the exposure.
If successful, the program could expand in scope or duration, bringing even more cultural experiences into the heart of one of New England’s key transportation hubs.
