On Thursday evening, Boston Red Sox officially announced the acquisition of first baseman/outfielder Ryan Noda from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations. Following this move, Noda has been optioned to Triple-A Worcester, where he has already been aded to the team’s roster.
In order to create space on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox also confirmed that Masataka Yoshida has been transferred to the 60-Day Injured List.
Ryan Noda, 29, has accumulated valuable experience over his career, appearing in 164 Major League games primarily with the Oakland Athletics between 2023 and 2024. He has made 130 starts at first base and one in right field. Despite facing challenges at the plate, the left-handed hitter has recorded a batting average of .212 (106 hits in 501 at-bats), boasting a respectable .344 on-base percentage that reflects his ability to draw walks. His offensive contributions include 26 doubles, one triple, and 17 home runs, showcasing his potential power.
Noda was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. Hailing from Illinois, he has most recently participated in 38 games for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, where he has struggled somewhat, hitting .148 (17 hits in 115 at-bats) and maintaining a .364 on-base percentage. Throughout this time, he has demonstrated versatility in the field, making 13 starts in right field, eight at first base, and also appearing in left field and center field four times each.
