On Thursday night at the vibrant Polar Park in Worcester, the Worcester Red Sox delivered a commanding performance, celebrating their fourth consecutive victory with a staggering 14-1 win against the Syracuse Mets. This triumph marked a remarkable run, with Worcester winning ten of their last eleven games. Their dominance over the Mets is particularly noteworthy, as they have now clinched five of their last six matchups against the Syracuse Mets, showcasing a robust 13-9 record to kick off their 2025 season.
Hunter Dobbins took the mound for Worcester, showing poise and precision during his six innings of work. With an efficient pitch count of 75—51 of which were strikes—he allowed only four hits, surrendered a single run, walked two batters, and struck out three, putting the opposing hitters on notice. Zack Kelly then stepped in, seamlessly transitioning from Dobbins with two solid innings of relief. Throwing 31 pitches and achieving a strike rate of 21, Kelly yielded just one hit, issued one walk, and struck out two, further solidifying Worcester’s grip on the game. Wyatt Mills closed out the contest, needing only 14 pitches—ten of which landed in the strike zone—as he struck out one batter, leaving no doubt about the Red Sox’s dominance.
The excitement began early, as Jon Singleton of Syracuse crossed home plate in the top of the first, giving the Mets a fleeting 1-0 advantage. However, the Red Sox quickly answered back in the bottom of the first, with Roman Anthony scoring to even the game at 1-1.
As the game progressed into the bottom of the third, the Red Sox erupted offensively, plating five runs in a flurry of activity that pushed the score to 6-1. Corey Rosier, Roman Anthony, and Nick Sogard each contributed to the surge with timely runs. It was Nate Eaton who put an exclamation point on the inning, launching a powerful homer off Brandon Sproat—a sweeping pitch clocked at 84.7 mph—signifying his second home run of the season as he boosted Worcester’s lead to 6-1.
The onslaught continued into the fourth inning. Roman Anthony ignited a fresh wave of excitement by connecting with a blistering 92.5 mph fastball, hitting his fifth homer of the season to extend the lead to 7-1. With the bases loaded, Rico Garcia walked Nate Eaton, allowing Nick Sogard to score and stretch the advantage to 8-1. Marcelo Mayer followed suit, crossing the plate to widen the gap further to 9-1. With the bases still loaded, Alex Binelas stepped up and hit a ground ball single on the seventh pitch from Sean Reid-Foley, a blazing 95.6 mph fastball, driving in both Abraham Toro and Nate Eaton, elevating Worcester’s lead to an impressive 11-1.
The Red Sox’s offensive fireworks culminated in the seventh inning. With Yasmani Grandal on second and Alex Binelas on first, Corey Rosier faced Chris Williams, a position player at the mound. After a ball on the first pitch, Rosier capitalized on the ensuing pitch, belting his first homer of the season—a thrilling three-run shot that pushed the score to 14-1.
