Stefon Diggs is making his way back to the AFC East, having inked a three-year, $69 million max deal with the New England Patriots, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.

This move comes approximately five months after Diggs suffered a significant ACL tear that prematurely ended his inaugural season with the Houston Texans. Following a recent visit to the Patriots’ facility, he eagerly posted workout videos on Instagram, showcasing his determination to bounce back.

While his addition significantly addresses a pressing need for New England’s receiving corps, it also opens the door to heightened scrutiny. The hefty price tag raises questions about the wisdom of investing in a veteran player recovering from such a serious injury. However, it appears the Patriots have confidence in his rehabilitation process and their assessment of his readiness to compete.

Houston general manager Nick Caserio had left the door open for a potential return to the Texans before the offseason officially began, but the former standout with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills is set to join head coach Mike Vrabel’s squad instead.

With Diggs in the fold, the Patriots are undoubtedly aiming to provide second-year quarterback Drake Maye with a reliable target. His experience and playmaking ability could prove invaluable for a young receiving group eager to make their mark.
