The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Toldeo MudHens in the first game of a six-game series at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Tuesday evening. The WooSox were coming off a series against the Norfolk Tide in which they won five of six, including a 13-0 shutout win on Sunday.

The first score of the game came in the bottom of the first as Roman Anthony, who’d recently been promoted from AA Portland, scored on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Teel, who’d also been promoted from AA Portland, giving Worcester the early 1-0 lead. They would extend their lead to 4-0 as Kristian Campbell knocked a three-run homer to center field in the bottom of the third inning.

Eddy Alverez homered to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the Sox’s lead to 5-0. Teel doubled later that inning, scoring Campbell and Chase Meidroth to make it 7-0. Teel would score himself on a single from Vaughn Grissom, extending the score to 8-0.

Toledo got on the board for the first time in the game as Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a two-run home run to center field to close the gap to 8-2 in the top of the sixth. Nick Sogard would score on a balk in the bottom of the half to bring the lead back up to 9-2.

Emmanuel Valdez hit a three-run home run to bring the lead up to 12-2. They would go on to hang on for a win by that final score.

The Sox and MudHens will meet in the second game of the series at Polar Park on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET.
