As Ukraine celebrates their Independence Day on Saturday, the Pentagon announced additional support Friday for Ukraine to meet its critical security and defense needs.

The Pentagon says this will be the Biden Administration’s sixty-fourth tranche of equipment to be provided from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.

Through the Presidential Drawdown Authority package Ukraine will get Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (c-UAS) equipment and munitions; Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition; Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles; and Demolitions equipment and munitions.

The State Department says this package is urgently needed as Ukraine defends itself against Russia’s ongoing attacks. And said this announcement demonstrates the United States’ enduring commitment to Ukraine’s self-defense.

This new assistance, the State Department says will deploy as quickly as possible to bolster Ukraine’s defense of its territory and its people.

In addition to the Presidential Drawdown Authority package, the State Department has also it is “Building on its unprecedented sanctions campaign and imposing new costs on those supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine and its attempts to deny Ukraine’s unique cultural identity.”

The sanctions campaign targets around 400 entities and individuals involved in sanctions evasion and circumvention. Some of these include entities in the People’s Republic of China and those that support Russia’s future energy production and exports.

The State Department is also imposing sanctions on entities and individuals in both Russia and Belarus that are involved in the production of armed unmanned aerial vehicles, missiles, fighter aircraft, armored vehicles, defense electronics, and munitions that are being used to fuel Russia’s war effort.

“We are also continuing to sanction those involved in the attempted ‘Russification’ and ‘re-education’ of Ukraine’s children,” the State Department said. “We will continue to use all available tools to hinder Russia’s use of the international financial system to wage its war of aggression and ensure Putin’s invasion ends in strategic failure.”
