The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs in the second game of the series between the two teams at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Wednesday night. The Sox defeated Lehigh Valley 4-3 in the opening game on Tuesday night. Richard Fitts took the mound for Worcester in this game.

WooSox manager Chad Tracy said that Triston Casas, who hit a two-run home run in Tuesday’s win, is close to being ready to join the Boston Red Sox. He played in his 10th rehab assignment on Wednesday.

Lehigh Valley struck first in the top of the third inning as Carlos De La Cruz homered to right center field. The WooSox wouldn’t tie the game until the bottom of the fifth as Eddy Alvarez scored on a single to right field from Mark Contreras.

Worcester would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth as Bobby Dalbec hit a single to left field, allowing Chase Meidroth to score.

The Ironpigs loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth, but Brian Van Belle, who had pitched 2.1 innings coming into the ninth, was able to hold them off and the Sox got the 2-1 win.

Worcester and Lehigh Valley will meet for Game 3 at Polar Park on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET.
