The Boston Red Sox delivered an impressive display of power hitting at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, securing a 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers initially took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Corey Seager launched his 22nd home run of the season, putting Texas ahead 1-0. In the bottom of the second, Josh Jung further extended the Rangers’ lead with his third homer of the season, making it 2-0.
The Red Sox responded in the top of the third inning, as Jarren Duran connected with an 89.6 mph cutter from Nathan Eovaldi, hitting his 34th double of the season. This hit allowed David Hamilton to score, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
Wilyer Abreu then leveled the score 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning with his eleventh home run of the season. Jarren Duran continued the offensive surge in the top of the fifth inning, hitting his 14th home run of the season, propelling the Red Sox into a 3-2 lead. The momentum continued as Wilyer Abreu extended the Red Sox lead to 6-2 in the top of the sixth inning with his 12th home run of the season, resulting in runs for both Rafael Devers and Connor Wong.
David Hamilton further extended the Red Sox lead to 7-2 in the top of the eighth inning with his sixth home run of the season.
Nick Pivetta took the mound for the Red Sox, delivering 4.2 innings of play, during which he threw 70 pitches, 44 of which were strikes. Pivetta allowed two runs on two hits, walked one, and garnered five strikeouts.
Looking ahead, the Red Sox will embark on a road trip to Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, where they are scheduled to kickoff a three-game series against the Royals on Monday night.
