The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Zack Short from the New York Mets. Boston sends cash considerations in exchange for the infielder.
Short, who played in 10 games with New York this season, started three games at third base. Short was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.
The New York native has batted .172 (68-for-395) with 13 home runs and eight stolen bases in 189 career games with the Detroit Tigers (2021-23) and Mets (2024), making 62 career starts at shortstop, 28 at second base, and 23 at third base. Short has played 8.0 innings in the outfield and made six pitching appearances.
He has also played for the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (2014) and the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League (2015) since coming out of Sacred Heart University.
