The Boston Bruins went back to TD Garden to play Game 5 of their quarterfinal series with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. The Bruins have won both of their games in Toronto to take a 3-1 lead in the series.
Jeremy Swayman was in net for the B’s while Toronto had Joseph Woll in the net for his first start in the series. Woll played 17 minutes in relief for Illya Samsonov in their loss to the Bruins in game 4 on Saturday and made five saves.
The Maple Leafs missed their top scorer Auston Matthews after an undisclosed illness kept him from Game 5.
Both teams scored in the first period, with Toronto striking first with a goal from Jake McCabe, and then Trent Frederic followed up with an equalizer with six minutes left in the period.
However, the teams would stay tied for the rest of regulation until overtime when Matthew Knies saved Toronto from elimination from the tournament with a goal in overtime to win the game 2-1.
Both teams will be heading back to Toronto for Game 6 on Thursday, time has yet to be determined as of the time of writing. If Toronto wins on Thursday, then Game 7 will take place in Boston, where it will be win or go home.
