By Darryl Harding Sr –

The Boston College Eagles managed to jump out to a 9-2 lead due to three 3-pointers made by Claudell Harris Jr. The Eagles managed to surmount a productive first half and ended with a six-point lead 35-29.

A solid performance from Quinten Post, with 13 rebounds and 23 points, kept the Eagles flying high until the second half. The Virginia Cavaliers defense stepped up in the second half and managed to hold the Eagles to only nine points in the first 8:30 minutes of the half.

Boston College shooting only 44% from the free-throw line managed to keep the Cavaliers relevant in the game even though the BC Eagles had more rebounds, more assists and more steals. Missing 10 out of 18 free throws allowed Virginia to hold a small lead and without a last second shot by Mason Madsen, BC would have lost in regulation.

Virginia, on the cusp of getting a tournament bid needed to win against Boston College in order to secure their hopes for a trip to the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately Boston College was only able to score one basket, a three-pointer by Harris Jr and with shut down defense the Virginia Cavaliers persisted to overcome and win in OT 66 to 60. With this win Virginia holds on to a chance to play in March Madness.
