A former New York City police officer who punched an emotionally disturbed woman in a stationhouse holding cell, has been sentenced to 60 days.
On January 10, 2024, Luis Marte was found guilty of Attempted Assault in the third degree and Official Misconduct by Judge Ralph Fabrizio following a bench trial.
Judge Fabrizio sentenced Marte to 60 days in jail and two years probation.
On March 1, 2019, Marte, who at the time was a Police Officer in the 44th Precinct, was spat on by a mentally ill woman who was in the holding cell. Marte unlocked the cell and punched the woman repeatedly, until other officers escorted him out of the cell. The woman was not seriously injured.
catch phrase, not seriously injured and a system which allows officers to be murdered. Too bad he didn’t fall in the floor and get a paid leave with Covid spitting can be justified as an act of deadly consequences. The trauma alone may have granted him a disability pension.
60 days is a slap on the wrist.
