The North Polar Bears girl’s basketball team hosted the Southridge Pioneers at North High School in Worcester, MA, on Wednesday night. The Polar Bears were looking to start a new win streak after they defeated Murdock on the road 38-24 last Wednesday, snapping a four-game losing streak.
North went on a 17-1 run before Southbridge, led by Yasiri Rojas, went on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. Rojas scored all eight points for Southbridge to close out the quarter.
Another successful shot from Southbridge to start the second quarter made it a 17-11 game, but North High would outscore them 11-8 in the quarter and led 28-16 at halftime.
The Pioneers kept it close in the first half of the third quarter as both they and the Polar Bears each scored eight points up to that point. North High went on a 6-0 run in a span of a minute and a half and built a 42-24 lead. They led 47-32 at the end of the third.
The Polar Bears wouldn’t let up in the final quarter as they picked up their fifth win of the season with the 63-40 win over Southbridge.
This season has marked the first season since 2016, when the girl’s basketball team 6 more than two games in a season.
The Polar Bears’ next game will be Friday night on the road against St. Paul. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
