UConn Huskies Extend Win Streak To Four Games With 80-75 Win

The number four ranked UConn Huskies traveled into Cincinnati to take on Xavier University. The Musketeers faced the Huskies in Big East division action. 

The Huskies were 3-1 versus Big East opponents and 13-2 overall before tonight while the Musketeers were 1-2 playing Big East competition and 7-7 overall on the season.

UConn jumped out to a 14-6 lead to start the game and held onto that lead going into halftime with a 42-38 lead. 

What was once a 10 point lead was narrowed to four with the Musketeers inching closer to taking the lead.

Xaiver at one point jumped in front with a 52-51 lead before the Huskies went on a 10-0 run behind back to back threes from Tristen Newton.

Newton ended the night with 16 points and 11 assists as UConn went on to win 80-75. Newton was one of five Huskie players scoring in double figures.

Cam Spencer (19 points), Alex Karaban (14 points), Stephon Castle (12 points), and Hassan Diarra (11 points) all joined Newton with 10 or more points.

For Xavier, Quincy Olivari scored a game high 24 points in a losing effort.

The number four ranked Huskies next opponent is the Georgetown Hoyas for more Big East competition. UConn and Georgetown will face of on Sunday, January 14 with tip-off scheduled for 12:00 PM EST.
